Following a collision with teammate Ed Reed on Sunday, Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie was unable to speak with the media following the Jets’ 37-27 win over the Raiders due to a head injury and fears of a concussion.

Cromartie finished the game but complained of a headache afterward, leading the Jets to follow the league’s concussion protocol. The veteran cornerback made progress on Monday.

“I think he’s going to be in that concussion protocol and things. He felt better today, so that’s a positive thing,” head coach Rex Ryan said. “I think, as explained to me, it’s a real positive sign that he improved from that point in the game.”

Ryan wasn’t certain if Cromartie had a concussion but said since he is in the concussion protocol “I’d assume that’s what happened.”

Even after the collision with Reed, which Ryan wasn’t sure if that was the singular play which caused the head injury, Cromartie stayed in the game. He didn’t complain of the injury till after the game.

“Just after the game he came back and said, ‘I kind of got a headache,’ or something like that,” Ryan said. “And that’s obviously when they go into that prevention. And certainly he would have been forced out if anyone knew about it.”

He had one tackle in Sunday’s game but routinely struggled in coverage.
